When you look at the new feline addition to your home, it’s hard to imagine that it could have anything like fleas. It is quite common for kittens to have fleas prior to them coming to live with you as they can bring them from the setting in which it lived before you. If the mother had fleas for example, it’s probable that the kittens will indeed have fleas. Of course fleas could have been brought in by any other pets, even though the mother cat didn’t leave the house. It’s more than possible for each of us to bring in fleas on clothing or shoes.

One of the most important tools to own is a flea comb. As soon as you bring the kitten home, take it to the bathroom and gently talk to it as you glide the flea comb through the kitty’s fur. The base of the tail, and behind each ear are places you should pay particular attention to when looking for fleas. The discovery of a single flea requires immediate action. 

In your kitty grooming box, you should have picked up something that will both kill off the fleas, and be safe for a newborn kitten.You should keep this to hand when you bring your new kitten home in case you find a flea. It’s important to remember that your kitten will stilll be feeling insecure at this time, so do everything you can to let it feel at ease.If possible try and so this on your own ensuring that other pets and members of the family are in the room in order to keep this as stress free as possible. Now your kitten’s clean it can be introduced to the family, though shouldn’t be allowed into contact with any bedding etc that it was in contact with before the treatment. Please ensure that it is throughly washed out prior to its return.

More often than not your kitten will arrive flealess, though by preparing for the worse you can avoid a potentially big job.
